Data Cost Control Policy Plug-in
The Trellia Data Cost Control Policy Plug-In enables IT to set mobile access polices to ensure that end-users are always connected to the most cost-effective network available. Its ability to cost-prioritize mobile PC networking options across LAN, Wi-Fi, 3G and Tethered smartphones ensures that the full spectrum of network access choices available to an end user can be controlled by the IT administrator.
The core capabilities of the Trellia Data Cost Control Policy Plug-In are:
| Policy Group | Description |
|---|---|
| Least cost network selection (network prioritization) | Allows IT to set, automate and enforce cost-based prioritization of network selection to ensure that mobile workers
always use the most cost-effective network available in a given location. Among others, this policy covers the following
scenarios:
|
| 3G International Roaming | Ability to control or entirely disallow use of a domestic 3G service when a user is travelling abroad, where the 3G would be roaming on a foreign network which has significant cost implications, to the order of $5-16 per Mbyte. |
| 3G Carrier Control | Ability to control or disallow the ability of mobile workers to use unapproved 3G services that they may have purchased on an individual basis. This helps limit corporate vs. individual liable costs associated with the wide availability of 3G services. |
| Smartphone Tethering | Ability to control or entirely disallow the ability of a mobile worker to use a corporate liable, 3G capable, Smartphone (Blackberry, iPhone etc.) as a tethered network device on the laptop if order to avoid incurring unbudgeted tethering fees (usually between $1-$2.MB). |
